Pancho Medrano, 1920-2002

Pancho attended a Dallas City Council meeting on May 23, 2001, to demand that Cesar Chavez’ birthday be declared a holiday. He has been quoted as saying, “In America, everything is politics, from the day you are born to the day you die… If it’s a church, a jail or whatever, you are in politics.” Political figures from Constables to Presidents were pleased to pose with Pancho. Pancho voted early in the 2002 Democratic Party runoff election when his Precinct Judge brought one of the machines to his house where Pancho lay gravely ill. He died the next day.
