Activities Pile Up in North Texas

Judy Bryant of the Education Workers Union (Alliance/AFT) and I have cooked up a good activity for all North Texas retirees. We will honor Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson for her work on health care at the union hall at 334 W Center, Dallas TX 75208 from 4 to 6:30 PM on Thursday, August 21. It's free, please come. Download a leaflet.

Demonstrate against starting another war on Friday, August 1, 4:30-6:00 p.m.at the north east corner of Central and Meadow in Dallas. Or did you think they won't start another war? Did you think they would start the present ones?

Combining EFCA (Employee Free Choice Act) work with voter registration is a good idea, especially within unions. Let me know if you'd like a packet that includes voter registration cards, EFCA petition postcards, and instructions.

The Dallas AFL-CIO Labor Day: Breakfast is at the Sheraton Hotel on Ester & Hiway 114, at North end of DFW Airpot, at 9 AM September 1. We need to gather enough volunteers and enough $25/seat fees to have a big Jobs with Justice delegation. Let me know if you can go and/or contribute. UAW 218 in Euless will host a big lunchtime affair.

If you've been worried about how the new Health Care coalition (HCAN includes AFL-CIO) views insurance companies, stop worrying and check out their new video at: http://healthcareforamericanow.org/page/invite/icr

The Texas AFL-CIO is asking for volunteers to help get out the voters. If between now and November 4, 2008 you have as little as 30 minutes to write some notecards to voters, block-walk OR phone-bank in this historic election, let them know by signing up at www.texaslabor2008.org.

For the next two weeks, I'll be begging for money on KNON radio, 89.3 FM, from 8-9 AM every Wednesday. If you'd like to help, you can donate to www.knon.org or send checks to PO Box 710909 Dallas TX 75371.

Next Jobs with Justice meeting: 7 PM on second Wednesday, August 13, at Oak Cliff Methodist, 547 E Jefferson in Dallas. Parking and entrance in rear.

Love& solidarity

Gene
