Amalgamated Transit Union Needs A Hand

Just received forwarded message from Kenneth Day, President of ATU 1338 in Dallas. Transit problems will affect low-income workers!

I wanted to make you aware of a new initiative launched this week by ATU and the Community Transportation Association of America (CTAA). We have officially formed the Alliance for Transit Operating Assistance (ATOA). Check us out at http://www.operatingassistance.org

The website includes the Alliance’s charter, which outlines the funding crisis faced by nearly all transit systems in the United States and identifies a solution: passage of H.R. 2746, which would allow transit systems of all sizes to use at least a portion of their federal transit funds to plug budget holes as they see fit and keep essential service on the street. The website will be updated regularly to provide the latest resources on this critical issue.

Our goal is to show Members of Congress that transit operating assistance has widespread support in the entire transit community, including labor, management, environmentalists, persons with disabilities, public health advocates, and anyone who relies on public or community transportation to get to work, school, or other destinations.   Please help us spread the word about ATOA by forwarding this email to any individuals or organizations that have an interest in this vital issue, and asking them to join the coalition. With your help, we can win the battle to stop the service cuts, fare increases and layoffs!   Thank you!
