During the recent election, U.S. Representative John Conyers stopped pushing his bill, House Resolution 676, because he didn't want it to be an issue in the campaign. None of the major candidates was supporting it, but a large number of union organizations, including the Texas AFL-CIO, have endorsed this bill. It would expand Medicare to cover everybody. There is no mention of any participation by insurance companies.
Now that the election is past, Conyers is pushing his bill again. North Texas Jobs with Justice has favored this legislation for a long time, and we will continue pushing for it.
At our January 14 meeting, expect to map out a
plan to get this bill passed.
