Pace of Progressive Activities Continues to Grow

The main activity for Jobs with Justice activists is the Cesar Chavez breakfast with State Representative Roberto Alonzo at 8:30 AM on Saturday, March 31, at Morelia's Restaurant, 2707 W Jefferson in the old Oak Cliff section of Dallas. As a very young man, Alonzo was an important part of the civil rights movement occuring during Chavez' time as leader of the United Farm Workers. Immediately after the breakfast, some Dallasites will head for Ft Worth to join the Cesar Chavez march and rally that begins at 11 AM there. Both events take on special significance because America's unions are pushing hard to get the Employee Free Choice Act through congress. The Act would allow new unions to form without the obstructions presently being created by big corporations and their friends in government. Jobs with Justice continues to petition for the Act.

Immigrants rights is an extremely hot part of the struggle for democracy right now. Voices for Immigrants and other organizations will hold a commemoration of the assassination of Salvadoran Archbishop Oscar Romero at 4:30 PM on March 24 in front of the Guadalupe Cathedral on Ross Street in downtown Dallas. Films on the lives of immigrants are being shown at Northaven Methodist Church on Preston Road beginning at 6:30 PM on March 30. A major rally is planned for 2 PM at Dallas City Hall on April 1. It will commemorate April 9, 2006, when Dallas hosted the largest mass demonstration in its history.

The Texas Legislature is still in session, and nobody is safe. ACORN will take community activists from Dallas to the state capitol on Wednesday, March 28, starting at 5 AM. Bus tickets are available for only $10. Call 214-823-4580.

Come to the Jobs with Justice meeting at Oak Cliff Methodist, 547 E Jefferson in Dallas (entrance in rear), on Wednesday, April 11, and we'll cook up even more action!
